The Easter Bible story came to life for children in Berrow on Monday (March 19th) when the village’s church held a special event.

The snow outside didn’t stop members of St Mary’s Church setting up several Easter scenes, from Jesus’ Journey from the Last Supper through to the resurrection, to help the youngsters understand the Easter story.

The church has been holding the event for the school for the past three years and members of the congregation also dress up as bible characters.

Marion Hance, a member of its congregation and a retired vicar, who organises

the event, said: “Children from years three and four get involved and members of the church present the Easter story to them.”

“The enactment begins in school with Palm Sunday. Each class then walks to the church for the first scene which is the Upper Room.”

“They then move on to the Temple when Jesus condemns the way it is being used. The next scene was the betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane followed by the crucifixion.”

Marion then uses pictures called the seven faces of Easter to tell them the story of Jesus from his birth. The children then move on to the Empty Tomb to celebrate the resurrection.

“It is a great way to tell the Easter Story and we also do the Christmas Journey in December,” she said.
