New ‘green’ Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge business awards launch

-

A new business awards scheme has been launched in Burnham-On-Sea to encourage shops and firms to become more environmentally friendly.

The plans were unveiled by Burnham’s coastal community officer Tanya Cox at the latest meeting of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

“The award scheme will empower businesses to make influential changes around sewerage, waste and litter, and the mis-use of drains,” says Tanya.

“The scheme encourages them to make small changes that have a big, positive impact on our environment.”

The scheme, which will complement local ‘green’ initiatives such as beach cleans and the plastic-free campaign, will see Litter Free Coast & Sea Somerset work with individual businesses to create bespoke action plans.

Businesses will be supported through the implementation of these action plans, which likely take 18 months at most from start to finish, and will proceed in three phases.

Participating businesses will be championed by Litter Free Coast & Sea Somerset and showcased as positive examples online, in the media and at local events such as Burnham’a food and drink festivals. Further details are available by email from coxt4@cardiff.ac.uk
