Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge speedway fans attending Wednesday’s Somerset Rebels home meeting got to meet two World champions.

With resident club number one Jason Doyle leading the Rebels into action, his compatriot Mark Webber, the 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion and multiple F1 GP winner, was also on hand at the Oaktree Arena undertaking promotional work for BT Sport.

Webber and the TV crew shadowed Doyle throughout the day and into the build-up for the Rebels SGB Premiership league fixture against Poole.

Oak Tree Arena owner Debbie Hancock, promoter of the ‘Cases’ Rebels, said: “When BT contacted me and asked if they could come along to do some filming and promotional work for the British GP I had no hesitation in agreeing, and when they told me that Mark Webber would be amongst the crew, I confess I was a little bit overcome with emotion.”

“I think Mark is a tremendous ambassador for motor racing and he is an absolute natural with his television work so to have him along and be part of the day here was fabulous.”

Somerset Rebels won Wednesday’s match 48-42 against The Pirates after a thrilling night of action which earned Somerset three league points to Poole’s 1.
