Burnham-On-Sea Police plan new crackdown on seafront ‘boy racers’

-

Burnham-On-Sea Police are planning to crackdown on ‘boy racers’ along the town’s seafront and town car parks following an upsurge in the problem.

Residents have reported increasing problems with anti-social driving in the Pier Street Car Park in recent weeks, where vehicles are often seen late at night performing noisy high-speed turns and speeding along The Esplanade.

The recent video below shows the problems in Burnham’s Pier Street Car Park.

Burnham-On-Sea Police’s Beat Manager, Sgt Ryan Edwards, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Over recent weeks we have been made aware of an increase in anti-social behaviour linked to ‘boy racers’ on the sea front and surrounding areas.”

He added: “Whilst we understand that the majority of road users enjoy the roads in a lawful manner, my message to anyone that drives in an anti-social manner is that this will not be tolerated and we will use all of the powers available to us to prevent such activity.”

“This can include the seizure of the vehicles involved. We will be working closely with our road traffic policing team to use both overt and covert tactics to tackle this issue so local residents and visitors to the town can enjoy the town safely and in peace.”

Anyone with concerns about anti-social driving should report the problem to Burnham-On-Sea Police via 101, or by calling 999 if it is an emergency.
