car park to get new CCTV system to tackle 'boy racers'
CCTV cameras are set to be introduced at a Burnham-On-Sea seafront
car park in a bid to crackdown on the ongoing issue of boy
District Council has this week said that upgraded infra-red CCTV
cameras are to be installed later this month amid continuing problems.

spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A new CCTV
system featuring high definition cameras with infrared capabilities,
operated by Sedgemoor District Council, will shortly be in operation
at the Pier Street car park."

at an approximate cost of £2,500."
local residents have proposed that security gates are installed
to lock up the car park at night and halt the problems.
the council says: "Pier Street car park is used legitimately
by members of the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Gates
at the entrances are not a practical solution."
for Avon and Somerset Police added: "Weve seen a small
rise in anti-social behaviour around the B&M car park in Burnham
have increased patrols as a result as well as carrying out speed
keen to identify those responsible and are encouraging people to
report any suspicious activity or information to us via 101 or anonymously
via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
