Crews from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue were called to Weston beach on Wednesday (October 10th) to join the search for a vulnerable missing person.

Both BARB’s hovercrafts were requested by Coastguards to search the beach near the Grand Pier at 12.30pm amid concern that the missing person was in mud.

The Police, ambulance and Coastguards from Weston and Clevedon were also on scene.

No casualty was initially visible so a full search of the beach was undertaken by both BARB’s hovercrafts due to the potential seriousness of the situation.

Coastguards and Police also used the end of the pier as a vantage point to scour the beach and mudflats using binoculars.

The initial missing person was eventually found by police. A separate person, a man in his 40s, was flown back to the beach from the mudflats on the hovercraft as a precautionary measure.

The Coastguard Co-ordination centre stood stood down the crews just after 2.30pm.
