Highbridge Asda staff member raises £500 for charity during sky dive

-

A staff member at Highbridge’s Asda store has raised more than £500 after taking part in a skydive for the mental health charity MIND.

Leia Smith, 18, has worked in the store for two years, and fellow staff members at the store have supported her all the way. Her fundraising efforts were topped up with a donation from the Asda Foundation.

Leia, who works in the store’s chilled department, said: “Everyone in the store was really supportive. They allowed me to put a sponsorship form up on a notice board in the canteen, and lots of colleagues donated and asked me how it went.”

“I’m a massive advocate for mental health. There’s still so much stigma around it, and it doesn’t always get the support and attention it needs.”

“That’s why I wanted to raise money and awareness for it, and help people who suffer with mental illness get help and support. The skydive was an insane, amazing experience.”

The store’s community champion Kelly Kinder said: “Leia must be completely fearless to do what she did! We were all really supportive of her and lots of colleagues sponsored her.”
