New witness appeal after Burnham-On-Sea mobility scooter driver dies

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward following a fatal collision between a mobility scooter and a 4x4 in Burnham-On-Sea's Adam Street on Thursday (March 8th).

Emergency services were called to Adam Street at just before 11.50am following reports of the collision near the junction with Oxford Street. Police say the man in his 80s died after being air-lifted to hospital.

PC Fyfe from Avon and Somerset Collision Investigation Unit said: "At about 11.50am, a Nissan Navara was travelling along Oxford Street and having turned into Adam Street, was in collision with the man who was on his mobility scooter."

"The gentleman, in his 80s, was taken to hospital but sadly died later that day. We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident."

The air ambulance landed in Burnham at the nearby St Andrew's School to take the casualty to hospital.

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust told "We were called to a reported road traffic collision involving a mobility scooter."

"The male patient was treated at the scene and taken onto Southmead hospital for further treatment."

Police closed Adam Street and directed traffic around the scene while ambulance crews helped the man. The road was re-opened mid-afternoon.

Anyone who saw the incident should contact Police on 101 and quote reference 5218050325.
