Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards have this week warned youngsters who have been spotted playing ‘chicken’ dodging waves along the town’s seafront not to put their lives in danger.

The warning comes after several groups of youngsters were spotted dodging in and out of the waves along Burnham’s sea wall over the weekend, as shown in this video.

With more high tides due in Burnham-On-Sea this week during the half-term school holidays, Coastguards are urging youngsters to keep safe.

Burnham Coastguard station officer Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The people doing this need to know that they are putting themselves in danger. They could easily slip and get pulled into the sea.”

“There is often debris in the waves and people also need to understand that they can easily be dragged into the sea by the under-tow of the water.”

“So what might look a harmless and fun activity, is incredibly dangerous and we would urge people not to put themselves in danger.”
