A local volunteer at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill has raised funds for the organisation by walking the Inca Trail in Peru.

Sue Wells has been volunteering for the charity near Burnham-On-Sea for over eight years.

She’s a trained animal carer, bird handler and also helps as a response driver for the wildlife rescue charity.

She said: “I had always wanted to go to Machu Picchu for my 60th birthday. I booked a holiday to Peru with a friend which would culminate in walking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.”

“As Secret World is such a big part of my life… I decided to get sponsored for the walk. I enjoyed every second of the trail even though at times it was very strenuous and the altitude made it difficult.”

“On the final morning, we got up at 3.45am in order to reach the Sun Gate and see the sun rise over the mountains and bring light to Machu Picchu. That was quite a magical moment.”
