Rain could turn to snow in the Burnham-On-Sea today, says Met Office

-

Forecasters say there is a ‘small chance’ that Burnham-On-Sea will see snow today (Thursday) or on Friday when a spell of arctic weather arrives.

Heavy rain will move through our area today and the Met office says there is a possibility it will turn to sleet or snow in the afternoon on the back edge of the weather front.

The Met Office has widened its amber snow warning area to include Burnham-On-Sea and the whole of Somerset, however forecasters say there remains uncertainty about which areas will see a dusting of snow.

A spokesman for the Met Office says: “Rain moving eastwards may turn to snow in places. Whilst this is unlikely, there is a small chance of snow settling with disruption to road, rail and air services, as well as interruptions to power supplies and other utilities. Associated heavy rain and strong winds may prove additional hazards.”

“If the area of heavy rain moves further north, this would pull cold air into the system and bring snow to parts of southern England. At the same time heavy rain will likely persist in some areas along with the potential for some locally strong winds.”
