Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were called to tackle a ‘deliberate’ blaze at the rear of the town’s post office this afternoon (Sunday).

Firefighters were called at 3pm to the rear of the post office building in Victoria Street.

“One appliance from Burnham-On-Sea was mobilised and upon arrival smoke and flames were issuing from three wheelie bins which had then spread to a fence and several conifer trees,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the scene.

Crews extinguished the fire using a main jet and one compressed air foam jet.

“The fire was believed to have been started deliberately and investigations are ongoing,” added the spokesman.

Burnham-On-Sea Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.

The fire comes only three days after the Post Office had been relaunched as a convenience store, as we reported here.
