Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were called out on Sunday evening (May 7th) to rescue a horse stuck in a water-filled ditch.

They rushed to Bristol Road in Tarnock just after 6.30pm when a call was received from the animal’s owner to say it was exhausted and stranded.

“Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and a specialist rescue crew from Bridgwater were immediately mobilised, along with an officer and a specialist rescue officer,” said a spokesman.

“Upon arrival, this was found to be a large 21 year-old horse some 14 hands high.”

“Firefighters donned dry suits and were able to attach lines, strops and a rescue harness to the horse.”

“The horse was subsequently then pulled free of the water filled ditch unharmed and into the care of its owner.”
