Burnham-On-Sea’s Gary Anderson lost his bid to win a third consecutive World Darts Championship during Monday night’s final.

Gary – who lives in Burnham-On-Sea with his partner Rachel – lost 7-3 to Michael Van Gerwen in a tense final in front of a huge audience and millions of TV viewers at Alexandra Palace in London.

Van Gerwen relished the win, saying: “I feel absolutely over the moon, I’m a very happy man at the moment.”

Gary Anderson praised his opponent: “The year that this man has had – it’s been a walk in the park for him. It’s well deserved but I’ve had a good three years, the crowd has been fantastic and we’ve had a good couple of weeks here.”

Monday’s final came after Gary beat Peter Wright 6-3 on Sunday evening to reach the final for a third consecutive year – an amazing accomplishment – but he would be denied the thirrd world title.

Gary lives in Burnham-On-Sea with his partner Rachel. He has three sons – Ryan, Joel and Tai.

Having previously worked as a builder, he and his partner Rachel previously ran the Wellington Arms pub in Rooksbridge, near Burnham, until a couple of years ago.

Gary was given a civic reception by Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor following his first world championship triumph in 2015.

His final appearance came after a win over Peter Wright on Sunday evening
