A young Burnham-On-Sea footballer is set to join an elite programme that could help her meet her goal of playing the sport professionally.

Megan Robinson, 16, has signed up to the elite performance programme at Bridgwater and Taunton College.

With the college recognising her elite potential, she has also been successfully awarded a sports scholarship to help support her financially towards a range of different items.

Megan, a Year 11 pupil, is currently in GCSE exam mode, but from September she’ll be studying her chosen academic course whilst also training 13+ hours per week, which will include technical and tactical sessions, strength and conditioning, match analysis, psychology plus more.

She will be joining a whole host of other talented names, some of whom are to international standard, and the squad will play in the highest division of college football (Category One Elite League).

She has been playing for Yeovil Town Ladies FC U16s and has also represented the South West of England and is on the England Talent Pathway with the Somerset FA Advanced Coaching Centre.

She has scored 44 goals this season for her club and has been awarded the top goalscorer award for the past three years after an incredible 22 goals for Somerset.

Megan told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have always wanted a career in sports and it has been my ambition to play football at a professional level.”

“I believe that the partnership between the Team BTC sport performance programme and Yeovil Town Ladies FC will provide me with high quality, professional sports coaching and support alongside an outstanding education to help develop my game, and help to fulfil my dream of playing for Yeovil in the WSL 1 football league.”

Sam Reilly, also pictured, who is Head of Sports, Outdoor Education and Public Services, said: “We are delighted that Megan has decided to join Bridgwater and Taunton College in September, allowing her to receive the benefit of a high-quality educational programme to support her academic and footballing ambition.”

“It is our aim at the college to provide world-class pathways for our students and providing a programme that allows elite athletes to fulfil their ambition is pivotal to us as a college.”

“Megan will be able to study an Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, whilst also receiving top-class coaching from a range of UEFA A and UEFA B licenced coaches, to continue to grow as a footballer.”

“I would like to wish Megan, along with all the upcoming players at the Yeovil Town Ladies, the best of luck in their GCSE’s and look forward to seeing them in September.”
