Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront fireworks display will be held at a family-friendly time this year, councillors have agreed this week.

The traditional fireworks display will be held on Sunday November 5th, the night before the Burnham-On-Sea Carnival.

Town councillors on the council’s Town Projects Committee have this week voted in favour of an early 6.30pm start time, instead of 7pm or 7.30pm as in some previous years.

Cllr Michael Clarke told the meeting: “An early start is better for all concerned – it draws a bigger crowd because families with younger children can attend – and that helps bring in more people to the town centre.”

Cllr Phil Harvey said that while he supports the event, he would like to see more businesses approached for donations to reduce the cost on the council.

Town Clerk Tatiana Cant added that this year’s display will coincide with a high tide and therefore the display will be more costly to hold due to the need for scaffolding on the jetty.
