Burnham-On-Sea Police have launched an investigation following an incident in which a woman was threatened with a knife at a cashpoint in the town centre.

Police say that at approximately 6.30pm on Friday evening (June 30th), a lady walked towards a cashpoint at Lloyd’s Bank in Burnham’s College Street with the plan to withdraw some money.

However, she was approached by a man holding a knife, who allegedly threatened her and demanded money.

The man fled from the street after a member of the public stepped in and Police were quickly called to the scene.

A Police spokesman said: “We’re investigating following an attempted robbery in Burnham-On-Sea at approximately 6.30pm on Friday (June 30th).”

“A man threatened a woman with a knife and demanded money from her outside a cashpoint in College Street. A member of the public intervened and the offender fled the scene empty handed. Enquiries are ongoing.”
