A town centre leisure shop in Burnham-On-Sea has closed down this weekend after what the firm called “disappointing sales.”

The High Street walking and camping supplies shop — called ‘A Walking Company’ — shut for the final time on Saturday evening (March 25th).

A staff member told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the shop had experienced “disappointing sales in recent months”. Its lease was up for renewal and the firm decided not to renew.

It’s the latest in a series of closures at the northern end of the town centre. Last week, Nat West said it will close its Burnham branch in October, and HSBC also shut in College Street in January. Fabulous Fruit and Veg also shut last month.

Burnham Chamber of Trade Vice Chairman Alex Turco said the latest closure is “disappointing and regrettable”.

He added that the Chamber has recently published a new edition of its shopping guide booklet, which features many of the town’s independent shops. It is also working to promote Burnham to coach visitors and continues to lobby the Town Council to install long-awaited new signage for the northern Town Centre.
