Burnham-On-Sea’s MP James Heappey has welcomed this week’s “positive” budget.

The MP says he’s pleased to see the Chancellor unveil some positive changes to universal credit and £7.5billion of extra funding for the NHS.

As well as this, there is £1billion of funding to local authorities for high value infrastructure and further support for small businesses.

£44billion has also been earmarked over the next eight years to fund the most ambitious house building programme since the 1950s.

Mr Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The positive headlines on housing, welfare and the NHS will be justified because the Chancellor has set out bold plans for easing pressure in those important areas.”

“Yet, also within the budget were less eye-catching but equally important measures like funding for technology, and clean growth, which will boost productivity and change the UK’s economy for the better.”
