Burnham-On-Sea is set to enter the annual Britain In Bloom contest this year for the first time in six years.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Dave Perrett, Chairman of Burnham in Bloom, said this week that the town will enter the South West in Bloom contest for ‘best high street’.

Burnham-On-Sea last entered in 2011 when it won a coveted Silver Gilt award, as we reported here at the time.

But work to improve Burnham’s High Street with new paving, lighting columns and hanging bakets as part of the town’s ‘Tesco 106 funding project’ has meant Burnham has not entered the contest since.

“We needed all the work to be finished and the new hanging baskets installed along the High Street, and those are now in place,” Dave told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We’re able to safely hang the baskets this year so entering the competition is possible. The town centre will be looking really colourful with many colourful blooms this summer.”

Meanwhile, the Burnham In Bloom town competition for the best floral displays in Burnham and Highbridge will also be held as normal with entry forms available soon via Burnham-On-Sea.com and at the Tourist Information Centre. The town will also enter the children’s art category and the pennant contest.
