Tributes paid to Burnham pensioner Brian Saunders who has died

-

Tributes have this week been paid to a popular Burnham-On-Sea pensioner who has passed away.

Brian Saunders was a familiar face to visitors of Burnham’s Princess Theatre. He founded the Friends of the Princess group and was instrumental in driving its revamp in 1995.

Theatre Manager Sam Nicol said this week: “It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Brian Saunders. A treasured friend of The Princess and many of those who have been involved with so many groups and activities in this and many other theatres.”

“His boundless energy and enthusiasm was infectious, his experience and knowledge, endless. He will be greatly missed by all of us here and, I am sure by many people in the wider community who knew and loved him.”

Brian was also a member of several local groups, including Moose International, and had a strong background in the theatre.

He frequently travelled many miles across the region, raising money by giving talks to groups and organisations about his 69 years of experience in theatre, both on and offstage.

Brian is pictured last year presenting a cheque for £1,000 to the Jessie May Trust’s Helen Macklie – the money enabled the charity to provide specialist ‘hospice at home care’ for terminally ill children.
