A residential care home in Burnham-On-Sea has marked its 40th year with a special celebration evening.

Supporters of Abbeyfield, which is located in Burnham-On-Sea’s Berrow Road, gathered at The Oaktree on Saturday evening for a special dinner.

The group welcomed Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, among the audience at the event.

“All the committee members and volunteers worked tremendously hard to make the evening a success,” said the group’s Tom Ashton.

“We had over 100 raffle prices plus 14 auction items, and I am delighted that we made a fantastic £2,500 profit on the evening.”

“Many thanks go to the supporters of Abbeyfield for their generosity in donating items and also for digging deep into their pockets on the night.”

The Abbeyfield in Burnham has eight residents with an average age of 88 and has been there for four decades.

Abbeyfield is an independent supported living residential home registered with charitable and corporate status and it’s affiliated to the national Abbeyfield charity, based in St Albans. There are over hundreds of homes in total across the world.
