Burnham-On-Sea pensioner celebrates her 100th birthday!

A Burnham-On-Sea pensioner marked her 100th birthday at the weekend with a special celebration.

Frances Ranahan celebrated her centenary with friends and relatives at Kathleen Chambers Home in Berrow Road, Burnham-On-Sea.

Organised by her daughter Pauline Baker, the party was attended by people across the country who wanted to be party of her special day.

Entertainment was provided by a vocalist keyboard player and Burnham and Highbridge Town band, where son-in-law Neville Baker plays the trombone.

Frances was born on 6th May, 1917 at Kingsdown Parade in Bristol. She was married at St James Church in Broadmead. Her husband Samuel passed away in 1981.

She worked for 40 years as a Finance Officer at Bristol University, and had an active life, running with Bristol Harriers from the age of 17 and she also played bowls for Brislington.

She has two children, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, plus great great grand children – five generations in all!
