Winter solstice to be marked at Burnham-On-Sea church service

-

A Burnham-On-Sea church is set to hold a special winter solstice service to mark the ‘shortest day of the year’ on Wednesday (December 21st).

St Andrew’s Church will hold the service at 5pm to celebrate the winter solstice and the returning of daylight.

“St Andrews church is over 700 years old, and as a community the people of Burnham-On-Sea will have celebrated the Solstice and looked for the turn of the year over the centuries,” said Rev Sharon Elergill, Associate Vicar of Burnham-On-Sea.

“We continue the tradition by the service that we hold to mark the shortest day, and to welcome the returning of the light. All are welcome to this simple service, to be followed by mulled cider and fruit juice.”
