New £300k second swimming pool for Burnham-On-Sea gets go-ahead

-

Plans for a new £300,000 second swimming pool and expanded facilities at Burnham-On-Sea’s Swim and Sports Academy have been given a final go-ahead by the district council this week.

The proposals for a new pool, sauna, two new fitness studios and a spa – which were first reported here last month – have been given approval by Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department. Town councillors also unanimously backed the scheme last month.

Co-owner Mark Cox-Conklin, pictured here with his wife Sara, told Burnham-On-Sea.com last night: “We’re super pleased about this decision, which enables us to proceed with the next exciting phase of the Academy’s development.”

“We want to keep the Academy moving forward and ensure we have big enough facilities for Burnham’s growing population.”

Mark added that work on the new building – which is planned for vacant land at the front of the site next to Berrow Road – will start shortly and he hopes that the development will be complete by next summer.

Mark added: “The proposed new second 5x10m pool will be a warmer water facility than our current one and will be aimed at young children, babies and mums so we can provide classes from a much earlier age.”

“Our existing 13 spin classes are very popular so we’re also adding two new cardio studios with extra equipment in addition to a new sauna and spa. We’re super pleased with the plans, which continue the development of the Academy.”
