St George’s Day was celebrated at both Apex Park in Highbridge and Marine Cove in Burnham-On-Sea when a line-up of free family activities was held on Saturday (April 23rd).

The day of fun was organised by Sedgemoor District Council’s parks team and was attended by hundreds of people over the course of the event.

It all started at Marine Cove on Burnham’s seafront where visitors were invited to make a woven Dragon Fly out of local willow following a training session with Musgrove Willows.

It was followed by a special St George’s Day themed walk, led by Sedgemoor’s community gardener Jacqui Strong.

The free guided walk proceeded along The Esplanade to Apex Park and all ages of walkers were welcome to join in. Walkers were encouraged to test their observation skills to find a story along route about St George.

The walk ended at Apex Park where art and craft activities were held with a St George’s Day theme.

The activities included a dragon hunt around the park with rewards for those who succeeded on their mission.

Sedgemoor Model Boat Club were on hand with special dragon boats on the lake called Lucinda and Baby Lucy along with St Andrew’s Church running “Messy Church”.

Some of the children got into the spirit of the day by wearing fancy dress as a Princess or a Knight.

The event saw the friends groups from both of Sedgemoor’s Green Flag award-winning parks working together on the joint event.
