A brave mother from Burnham-On-Sea is peparing to skydive from 13,000ft to raise charity funds after her baby boy was born at just 23 weeks.

Debbie Morris and her friends Julia Barker and Claudette Murley will take part in the daring jump on Saturday June 4th in aid of The Cots for Tots Appeal, which supports the neonatal intensive care unit at Bristol’s St Michael’s Hospital.

Debbie and husband Richard stayed four times at the Cots for Tots House, which provides free family accommodation for parents with babies undergoing treatment when their son Mackenzie was born 16 weeks early in September 2013, weighing just 1lb 7ozs.

He spent the first six months of his life in the neonatal intensive care unit receiving treatment after surgery.

Debbie says: “This is a charity very close to my heart as our son was born extremely prematurely at 23 weeks gestation.”

“He underwent six surgeries, two of which were life-saving and spent his first six months in the unit.”

“He is now two and a half years old and continues to have a few medical issues but on the whole has a very bright future ahead of him.”

“He lives life to the full. If it wasn’t for the hospital and the work done by Cots For Tots he would not be alive.”

“Cots For Tots support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital by fully funding a parent accommodation house, fully funding the emergency stabilisation unit for transporting babies between hospitals, plus fundraising for state-of-the-art, life-saving medical equipment.”

The couple have a Just Giving page here with donations welcome.
