Dozens of the UK’s leading sand yachting enthusiasts were in action on Brean beach at the weekend, competing in the British Land Yachting Championships.

The two-day event was organised by Brean Land Yacht Club and was held on both Saturday and Sunday.

“We had a great day on Saturday, with plenty of wind meaning we could go ahead with seven hours of glorious racing,” organiser Martyn Hayle told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“But the calmer conditions on Sunday were more challenging and fewer races were able to go ahead.”

During ideal conditions, the yachts speed across the sands at up to 60mph.
