Transport Police are appealing for information about how a motorbike got left on the railway line between Weston-super-Mare and Highbridge on Wednesday (June 15th).

A train hit the bike, damaging it, and causing a brief closure of the line. National Rail reported delays between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton just before 2pm after tghe motorbike was found on the railway.

The lines re-opened about 20 minutes later, but several later trains were also delayed.

Kevin Bridgwater, who was on the train at the time, said the train hit a motorbike, said: “I was on the train that hit the motorbike left on the line. Nobody was hurt luckily but there was a huge bang and smell of fuel.”

“The train went on to Highbridge after being checked for safety and the passengers swapped to another train.”

A spokesman for National Rail Enquiries confirmed the object had been removed from the tracks, near Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge station.
