Model Railway Club gives its backing to Burnham rail heritage project

-

Burnham and District Model Railway Club has handed a donation to Burnham-On-Sea Railway Heritage Group towards their funds for a newly-installed railway station platform sign.

The new sign is located on the original excursion platform located in Old Station Approach in Burnham.

The Railway Heritage Group is undertaking a project to install items of railway memorabilia along the route of the railway which ran from Highbridge to Burnham.

Originally this was part of the Central Somerset Railway, later the Somerset and
Dorset Railway, which closed in the 1960s.

The sign is the first item to appear and it is hoped that a signal post will be installed near Burnham’s Roman Catholic Church further along the road in the near future.

Treasurer Paul Hambleton said: “The Railway Heritage Group is deeply grateful for this generous donation to our funds which is allowing the project to move forward.”

The group is also set to benefit from the sales of a special limited edition ‘Private
owners Wagon’ which has been specially commissioned by the Model Railway Club. These are available for purchase from the Model Railway Club website.
