Several new volunteers have come forward to help Burnham-On-Sea’s Poppy Appeal after Burnham-On-Sea.com featured its plea for new helpers earlier this week.

At least ten readers have got in contact with Burnham’s Royal British Legion since our article here on Monday to offer their help as Poppy Appeal collectors.

The annual Burnham and Highbridge Poppy Appeal collections runs from this Saturday 29th October through to 12th November.

Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured, said last night: “We are so grateful to Burnham-On-Sea.com for the help in filling the places. We had been struggling to find enough collectors this year but since the article at least ten readers have come to offer their help which is wonderful.”

“The Poppy Appeal Collectors are the face of the Legion during the Poppy Appeal.”

“They help provide as many opportunities as possible for people to wear a poppy to show their support for our Armed Forces, while raising important funds.”

Last year the appeal raised almost £30,000 in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge and it’s hoped a similar amount will be collected this year using the volunteers.

She added that further volunteers are welcome: “If you can give a couple of hours to just turn up and collect at one of the local supermarkets in Burnham or Highbridge then please give me a call on 01278 238723. We’d love to hear from you.”
