‘Struggling’ Poppy Appeal in Burnham-On-Sea issues plea for helpers

-

An urgent appeal has been issued this week for volunteers to come forward to help Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Poppy Appeal.

Burnham’s Royal British Legion has made a plea for more Poppy Appeal collectors to help across Burnham and Highbridge during the annual collection, which runs from Saturday 29th October to 12th November.

Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Poppy Appeal Collectors are the face of the Legion during the Poppy Appeal – but this year we are really struggling to find enough local volunteers.”

“The collectors help provide as many opportunities as possible for people to wear a poppy to show their support for our Armed Forces, while raising important funds.”

“Last year we raised almost £30,000 in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge and we hope to raise a similar amount this year – but only if we can get the support of more collectors.”

She added: “If you can give a couple of hours to just turn up and collect at one of the local supermarkets in Burnham or Highbridge then please give me a call on 01278 238723. We’d love to hear from you.”

Burnham-On-Sea Royal British Legion volunteers were also fundraising during Saturday’s Food Festival outside the Legion HQ in Victoria Street, pictured above.
