A new record total of £28,840 has been raised in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge for the Royal British Legion during the town’s annual Poppy Appeal.

Generous residents in the Burnham area dug deep to donate to the appeal by buying thousands of poppies during October and November, beating last year’s total of £28,500, it was confirmed by Burnham Poppy Appeal this week.

Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been another fantastic collection in Burnham and Highbridge – the towns really have done themselves proud.”

“The total for this year’s appeal reached a brilliant £28,840. It’s a fantastic figure that shows the strong local support for the Poppy Appeal.”

“We have been overwhelmed by the generous response from the general public, schools, businesses and groups and all of our collectors.”

Ruth added: “Collections at local supermarkets were particularly strong – Tesco alone raised £6,207 and there was also great support at Asda, Lidl and B&M.”

“A big thank you goes to all our wonderful collectors, the people who helped to collect the donations and count the money, and to the public and businesses for their generosity in supporting us.”

“There were many fantastic collectors again this year for whom we are hugely grateful. Burnham and Highbridge Army Cadets did especially well, raising £2,000 over three days.”

“A lot of hard work goes into this each year by many people but it is clearly very much worth it and we thank everyone for their support. We are thrilled that it went so well again this year.”
