Council says it won’t charge for Parkruns at Highbridge’s Apex Park

-

Runners who are concerned that they could be charged for weekly Saturday morning Parkruns at Highbridge’s Apex Park have nothing to fear.

Sedgemoor District Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that it has no plans to impose a fee on the dozens of people who take part in the weekly events.

The announcement comes after Stoke Gifford Parish Council hit the national headlines earlier this week by voting to charge Parkrun for the use of Little Stoke Park, near Bristol, for its Saturday morning runs. It’s the first council to introduce such a charge.

Claire Faun from Sedgemoor District Council, which owns Apex, says it will not be following suit.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Sedgemoor District Council has no plans to charge for the parkrun in Apex Park.”

Burnham and Highbridge Parkruns are weekly free 5km timed running events that take place every Saturday at 9am.

The Burnham and Highbridge Park Run launched at Apex Park in June last year and the events attract up to 200 runners each week.

Park Runs are free to join, but runners need to sign up online here to get a unique barcode that enables them to log their finishing times each week.

“We are delighted and amazed at how quickly the event has grown,” organiser Reg Huxtable from Burnham Harriers running club told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
