Burnham head shave raises £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

-

A Burnham-On-Sea man has raised over £2,000 for charity by having his hair shaved off to raise money for a charity that has been supporting his mother as she battles cancer.

David Bullimore held the fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support at Pawlett Legion Social Club.

His mother Linda, who is a well-known resident about Burnham, has been diagnosed with four cancerous tumours.

David told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m truly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of support from our local community and really cannot thank each person involved enough.”

“Macmillan have done so much for my mom and each of those people have contributed to giving life-changing advice, care and most importantly time to those who need it.”

“Time is invaluable and often mistreated. Someone out there will need that time from a Macmillan cancer nurse, dedicated and caring, person-to-person, to make that difference.”

He added: “All the donations have been collected and we’ve raised a total of £2,005, which is double the initial target for Macmillan. We are so grateful to all who donated and took part.”

“Huge thanks go to all those who gave donations of raffle prizes from many of the local independent shops, raising £285!”

“An absolutely astounding appreciation also goes to the members of Pawlett British Legion for all their effort and support including Jon Hopwood, of Solid Wood Fireplaces, for also shaving his head!”

“Thank you also to Hannah White, of E-clips, for doing the honourable deed, and to Ron Winter helping to host the event at the club, for sorting all of the entertainment and keeping the momentum going on the evening!”

“Thank you also to professional singer Breeze, who gave us a night of entertainment in support of the Legion and the event and also thank you to her mother for organising all the donations and raffle.”
