Beaches in Burnham-On-Sea busy on the hottest day of the year so far

-

Burnham-On-Sea enjoyed its hottest day of the year so far on Tuesday (July 19th) when thermometers hit 32.4°C (90.3°F), making the town warmer than many Mediterranean holiday resorts.

Beach users in Burnham enjoyed a cooling dip in the sea at high tide at the end of a superb day with the hot weather set to continue through the week.

The record temperature was recorded at a weather station in Brent Knoll just after 3.15pm. It comes after Monday’s temperature reached 28.9°C (84.0°F). Paddlers have been out in force enjoying the weather on Burnham beach.

Ian Jefferies, manager at Burnham’s tourist information centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been a good start to the season with many accommodation providers reporting positive forward bookings for the summer.”

Burnham county councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, who was out enjoying the weather on Burnham seafront on Tuesday evening, added: “It’s great to see the town really busy and so many people out enjoying the heatwave.”

“It’s been a good start to the summer in Burnham and we just hope that the good weather holds for the six-week school holiday!”
