Cause of £1m Highbridge Caravans blaze 'undetermined' - fire service

The cause of a huge blaze that destroyed 160 caravans worth more than £1 million at Highbridge Caravans early on Saturday remains "undetermined" says the fire service.

Paul Slaven from Devon and Somerset Fire Service told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The cause of the fire is still undetermined due to the severity of the damage but is believed to be accidental."

He added that the the site has been handed back to the owners and their insurers.

As first reported here, crews were called from across Somerset to battle the blaze at around 1.30am on Saturday when 160 caravans were destroyed.

Philip Davies, Director at Highbridge Caravans, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We are devastated that this has happened - more than 160 caravans were destroyed and, as each has a value of around £10-£15,000, the overall figure will be over £1million."

"We thank the community for their many kind wishes and support."

He added that the business is open and is continuing to trade as usual - with the workshops, sales area, accessories and awnings shop are all open.
