Burnham-On-Sea firefighters rescued a woman from a car in a ditch early on Sunday (May 29th).

The Fire Service was called to Harp Road between the villages of Brent Knoll and Mark at 3.11am.

One crew from Burnham and a further crew from Bridgwater were sent to the incident.

“On arrival crews confirmed a single vehicle was in a water-filled ditch. One person was still with the car and sat on top of the vehicle,” said a spokesman.

“Crews got to work making access through foliage attempting to gain access to the female using small tools and setting up water safety equipment.”

“One female was helped to safety from the vehicle using a triple extension ladder and dry suits.”

“The area was also searched by the Fire Service using thermal image cameras and no other persons were located. The driver was left in the care of the Ambulance Service and received treatment at the scene.”
