Five-vehicle shunt on A38 at Burnham-On-Sea causes long delays

-

A five-vehicle crash on the A38 at Burnham-On-Sea caused traffic disruption on one of the busiest travel days of the year – Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

The incident occurred on the approach to the Edithmead roundabout on the A38 just off junction 22 of the M5 for Burnham, as pictured here.

The incident happened just before 11.30am and, with several further incidents on the M5 through the day, motorists faced long delays travelling in and out of the Burnham area.

“Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea, together with a rescue tender from Glastonbury, were mobilised following a call from a member of public reporting a collision and it was believed that persons were trapped,” said a spokesman.

“On arrival crews confirmed that although this was a multi-vehicle collision, all persons were free and clear of the vehicles. Crews then set to work checking for any casualties, but later confirmed there were no casualties, and made the vehicles safe.”
