Photos: High tides cut back dunes in Burnham-On-Sea and leave debris

-

A series of exceptionally high Spring tides in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow left their mark along the coastline over the weekend.

The sand dunes have been cut back by a couple of metres in several exposed areas by the erosive action of the waves and onshore winds.

Large amounts of debris has also been washed up along the beach, giving council cleaners a big clean-up task in the next few days.

It follows a series of high tides in the Burnham area over the weekend, peaking at 12.04m on Saturday morning. There are further high tides this week – see the tide times in Burnham-On-Sea for details.

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards issued a warning last week for beach users to take extra care and the cautionary message was heeded with no incidents.
