A Burnham-On-Sea author has unveiled his latest novel this week which is set on the Somerset Levels.

Bestselling author of the DI Nick Dixon Crime Series, Damien Boyd has launched Dead Level, his fifth novel, which is focussed around the Levels during the major flooding.

Dead Level follows Detective Inspector Nick Dixon as he investigates a brutal stabbing in the village of Northmoor Green.

Damien’s popular series of crime thrillers follows the exploits of Nick Dixon, a fictional detective inspector with Avon & Somerset Police, based at the new police centre at Express Park, Bridgwater.

“In the early hours of Christmas Eve, the wife of parliamentary candidate Tom Perry is brutally murdered in an apparent burglary gone wrong,” says Damien.

“With the by-election campaign about to start in earnest, and the festive season in full swing, torrential rain brings with it flood warnings on the Somerset Levels.”

“Suspended on full pay and transferred to the cold case unit, Detective Inspector Nick Dixon is languishing on the sidelines as the investigation into Elizabeth Perry’s murder unravels and the floodwaters rise.”

“Returning to duty, Dixon is convinced that the answer lies hidden in Tom Perry’s political life, but why was Elizabeth the target and not her husband? The more Dixon uncovers, the further he is from finding the truth.”

Damien added: “Early feedback has, once again, been overwhelmingly positive and I hope that fans of the series will think it has been worth the wait!”

“Dead Level would not have been possible without the co-operation of the Avon & Somerset Police. I would also like to pay tribute to the Burnham-On-Sea RNLI whose assistance was invaluable. Needless to say, the RNLI save the day, and the time they spent with me ensuring the technical details of the rescue were correct was pure gold. I cannot thank them enough!'”

In advance of the publication of the fifth instalment, Damien will be signing copies of Dead Level at an exclusive pre-launch event at GW Hurley in Burnham-On-Sea High Street at 10am on Saturday 12th March. Dead Level will be officially released on Tuesday 15th March.
