Two women were taken to hospital following a car crash near Burnham-On-Sea last night (Monday).

A Renault Megane and a people carrier collided around 5pm on the A38 Bristol Road at East Brent, causing severe traffic disruption.

Two women in the Renault Megane suffered suspected back and neck injuries.

And the two occupants in the people carrier suffered what were believed to be minor injuries.

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the scene on the junction of the A370 with the East Brent roundabout.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Shortly after arriving and assessing the scene, crews confirmed that whilst two people were still within the vehicle, they were medically, not physically, trapped but they would still required extrication.”

“After liaising with on-scene paramedics and stabilising the vehicle, crews released two female casualties, using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove one of the doors for better access.”

“Once released both casualties were left in the hands of paramedics.”

Duty of care was left with the Police and the road was re-opened mid-evening.
