Staff at a Burnham-On-Sea sandwich bar have raised hundred of pounds for the town’s Poppy Appeal by selling crochet poppies.

Burrs in Victoria Street has presented £250 to the local appeal following a unique fundraising effort.

Owner Donna Berry told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were discussing what we could do to raise funds for the appeal when one of our staff, Doreen Holt, suggested making knitting these unique crochet poppies.”

“We thought it was a lovely idea and more than 120 of varying sizes were made and sold in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day. They attracted lots of interest and we were delighted to raise such a good amount, raising £250 for the Burnham Poppy Appeal.”

Burnham Poppy Appeal organiser Ruth Crosby said: “This was a really lovely idea and very different – we thank the Burrs staff for all their support.”
