"We mustn’t let terrorism win" Burnham MEP speak outs after attack

-

“We mustn’t let terrorism win”- those were the words of Burnham-On-Sea’s Member of the European Parliament on Tuesday after explosions in Belgium’s capital Brussels killed over 30 people.

A number of the South West’s MEPs were in the Belgian capital Brussels yesterday morning when explosions ripped through its airport and a metro station close to the EU buildings.

At least 34 people were killed and 170 injured after co-ordinated bomb attacks brought terror to Brussels.

Burnham’s MEP Julie Girling, pictured, took to Twitter to reassure followers that she and her team were fine. She tweeted: “Lots of calls asking if I’m OK. Yes thanks and all my staff. We mustn’t let terrorism win.”

Another of the region’s MEPs, Ashley Fox, added: “I am deeply shocked by the atrocities. This is the second time that Brussels has been hit by mindless violence which has killed and injured many people.”

“We should be resolute in our defence of democracy and should not allow these terrorists to change the way we live our lives. My thoughts are with those families that have lost loved ones.”
