Woman rescued from beach mud in early morning incident at Brean

-

A young woman was rescued from beach mud at Brean after getting into difficulty early on Saturday morning.

The woman, in her 20s, was in a distressed state and was reported to be in trouble by a friend at 3.30am.

Coastguards from Burnham and Weston were called to the scene, with volunteers from BARB Search & Rescue and police and ambulance crews.

A police helicopter lit up the scene from above and a BARB hovercraft flew out to the casualty with two Coastguard mud rescue team members.

“The woman was helped from the mud and taken onboard the hovercraft before being flown up the beach to safety,” said BARB pilot Wayne Kilgallon.

She was checked over by ambulance crews on scene and taken to Weston Hospital.
