Helpers wanted for Burnham-On-Sea beach clean this Saturday

-

Volunteers are being sought to join a community beach clean-up in Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (September 24th).

The event will run from 10am – 11.30am and the helpers will be meeting at Burnham’s jetty.

Those who go along will become ‘Friends of Burnham Beach’ by taking part in the group’s very first community beach clean.

The group will be focusing on the mouth of the river Brue since over the summer months large numbers of plastic bottles and debris have built up there, said organisers Mark Hollidge and Harriet Yates-Smith.

Harriet added: “We hope this beach clean will be the beginning of a dedicated group of volunteers who can regularly keep Burnham, Berrow and Brean beach free from marine and beach litter and safe for everyone to enjoy. So please come along, join in, and have a chat!”

“Please note that due to insurance purposes children under the age of five aren’t able to participate unless their guardian signs a disclaimer form and young people under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult.”

“Equipment is provided but please wear appropriate foot wear – wellies – as the mouth of the Brue will be muddy. Please also bring water and a warm coat!”
