Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and across Somerset were called to tackle a barn blaze overnight into Monday.

Crews from Bridgwater, Street, Somerton and Taunton were sent to the scene just before 9pm on Sunday evening after reports of a barn measuring 25m x 50 metres alight containing approximately 100 tonnes of hay.

On arrival in North Lane, Othery, crews confirmed that an open-sided barn was well alight and six pumps were called to the scene. Four further fire engines were mobilised and crews worked with main jets and compressed foam jets.

The welfare pod from Burnham-On-Sea was sent to the incident with hot packs and refreshments for the firefighters.

Crews made good steady progress through Monday, turning over the hay and damping down.
