Great Burnham Bake-Off 2016 competition categories are announced

-

The Great Burnham Bake off is set to return to the Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival in May and bakers are being invited to start their preparations for the big event.

The categories for the contest – which is set to be held on Saturday 28th May – have been announced this week.

They include: Young Baker – 8th birthday cake (sponge base); Family Bakers – Shortbread biscuits; Individual Baker – Queen of Puddings; Technical Challenge – 6 bread rolls; Professional Bakers – “Chocolate to the Max” (A chocolate cake based creation showcasing your skills).

Festival organiser Bev Milner Simonds said: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has been a popular competition at the last seven food and drink festivals, this time we are not only looking for the best cakes, but also bread and a chocolate spectacular from our professional bakers.”

Fellow organiser Sarah Milner Simonds continued: “The Technical Challenge last time was searching for sausage rolls – this time we are looking for 6 bread rolls. We are celebrating the monarch’s birthday with a Queen of Puddings. We are also asking bakers if they are happy to share their bakes with the other bakers.”

Sponsor Debbie March from Retreat Caravan Park added: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has become an established part of the local calendar and we are very proud to be the sponsor. I am champion of young bakers and I am delighted to raise their profile with this competition at the ‘Bake Off.”

Bakers need to download an entry form & rules from the festival website at www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org and present a completed form and their bake before 2pm on Saturday 28 May at Somerset Skills & Learning, Princess Street.
