Discount retailer B&M has this week again denied continuing rumours that it is set to take over the former Morrisons supermarket site in Burnham-On-Sea.

A spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “We are actively seeking opportunities to increase the number of B&M stores across Somerset, however I am not aware that we are looking at this site at this present moment.”

“As a growing business with more than 480 stores nationwide we are always looking to expand further; providing great value products and world class service to even more customers every week as well as playing an integral part in the local community.”

The denial comes just days after B&M said it is taking over the former Morrisons store in nearby Clevedon.

Meanwhile, Burnham Chamber of Trade has this week written to the Burnham site’s leaseholder, Morrisons, and the site’s freeholder, the Pension Protection Fund, urging them to engage with the town’s business community. The letter has been signed by dozens of traders across the town centre, following up a meeting of businesses held last Friday.
