Supermarket giant Aldi has this week not ruled out taking over Burnham-On-Sea’s former Morrisons store.
Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, the firm issued a statement regarding the vacant store in Burnham’s Pier Street.
An Aldi spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are always considering new locations for stores across the UK.”
“As always, when we have confirmed a location for a new store we will update the local community.”
Burnham’s Town Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds said: “Interest in this vacant property is welcome.”
“Aldi is a well-regarded retailer and would offer many people the convenience of a supermarket close to home. I look forward to further updates.”
Discount retailer B&M announced in January that it intends to take over the Pier Street store, creating 50 jobs, however the wait for an opening date continues with no news on its timeframes.
We first reported last month that parking charges in the Pier Street car park, operated by Sedgemoor District Council, have been a sticking point.
Morrisons closed down its Pier Street supermarket last November and the building has been vacant ever since.
